The passages with Pierre and Platon are some of the best in the novel. Definitely my favorite. It’s that experience that finally pushes Pierre to change. Before his time as a prisoner he is so crazy and unfocused. After, however, he emerges as a full man. One able to serve as father figure to Andrei’s son.

Great novel, nice essay.
