That’s a nice, charitable view of Anatole and one I’ve never considered because I dislike him so much. Part of A Year of War and Peace’s thematic philosophy is taking a charitable view of others so I’m embarrassed that I never thought of it. Really shows how deeply our impressions misguide us.
