Ever since I developed a big crush on 19th century Russian literature back in high school Constance Garnett has been a major part of my life. In terms of her translations I feel much like Katherine Mansfield in the letter you link to: “What would it be like to be without them!”

It’s nice to finally learn something about the translator of some of my favorite books. I’ve been reading War and Peace repeatedly for years now and the Garnett is one of my favorites. Her Crime and Punishment can’t be touched.

Thank you!
