A Year of War and Peace+ Day 10

In which Natásha gets jealous and we learn not to worry over the affairs of others

War and Peace — Book One, Part One

Chapter Ten

When Natásha ran out of the drawing room she only went as far as the conservatory. There she paused and stood listening to the conversation in the drawing room, waiting for Borís to come out. She was already growing impatient, and stamped her foot, ready to cry at his not coming at once, when she heard the young man’s discreet steps approaching neither quickly nor slowly. At this Natásha dashed swiftly among the flower tubs and hid there.

A Year of War and Peace — Day 10

Kissing Cousins

Natásha awaits Borís in the conservatory. She’s overtaken with the whim to hide and make him search for her so she secrets herself away behind some flower tubs and waits for him there. Borís enters but he’s more interested in admiring himself in the mirror than he is in looking for Natásha. He soon leaves.
